The band Heyday is an indie rock band that has lyrics relatable to anyone one who has made it threw high school and probably living through the college years. There lyrics are simple, yet impactful, discussing daily routines in our life making them sound interesting. The target audience then for our video is students, between the ages of 15-28 who have dealt with love, understand the concept and are interested in the way it impacts our lives.
The concept of this video piece is to humorously portray love and the unwillingness to want it. The concept of the song is a guy is “talking” to this girl but understands that only fools will fall in love. They see the tension there but try their best to get away from it. We want to portray this in a funny and entertaining way instead of creating another whining, self-loathing, emo music video! The band members will start the video performing under a bridge. This will be a distance shot that will move in closer, as we move into the band one member will stop playing and begin to run. The viewer will be thrown off assuming that groupies of sorts are hot on their tail. However, as the rest of the band continues to play a giant heart will sprint after our running member. I want to incorporate multi panel format so that we can have a story being told from multiple band member’s angles. The first time that we will see this format introduced is when you see the terror of the band member who is running’s face and the joy of the heart following him.
The next shot I want to have is another band member sitting down enjoying some lunch with his respective heart. The screen then splits into fours, the two outside panels are the hart and band member, and the two in the middle are band members playing music. The two interior screens will get smaller and smaller bringing the heart and individual closer together. As this finally reaches its climax the band member hops out of his chair and bolts off. Now we have four frames, two of band members running, and two of hearts chasing. Transition to the band playing below while there are four small frames, two showing the faces and emotions of the band members, and two of the hearts running.
Next set of scenes is our resolution; we have the last two band members hanging out at the park in one frame and the terrorized other two running in the other. The frames collide as the hearts and band members run through the park and anther heart comes through chasing yet another member.
Cut to epic slow motion collision montage three of the four band members getting tackled by their respective hearts. After we have fully enjoyed those we will move to a screen where our last member rushes into his room, shuts the door and relaxes on his couch…..Only to find that his heart is behind the couch, wa wa wa.
